Networking jargon's

So what is networking all about? It involves connecting of different systems for the purpose of sharing information and resources. You may come across different terms in networking which is mentioned below:


SNEAKERNET

A type of networking where data is transferred physically using storage media like magnetic tapes, floppy disks, CD/DVD, USB flash drives or external hard drives from one computer to another.


ETHERNET

A type of networking that could support around 30 users on a single network with a total span of 607 feet.


LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN)

A small network limited to a single collection of machines using one or more cables and other peripheral devices.


INTERNETWORK

A network of networks which consists of two or more physical networks.


METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MAN)

This type of network usually connects LAN's in the same city or town.


WIDE AREA NETWORK (WAN)

A network that links two or more LAN's or MAN's and spans huge geographical locations.


SERVER

A system whose job is to respond to requests for services or resources from different clients.


CLIENT

A system that requests resources or services from other systems.


PEER TO PEER NETWORK (P2P)

Here each computer can be a client as well server to other computers. A single computer can request resources from other computers and can act as a server to other computers for transferring this data to some other computer.
